DESCRIPTION
Cefjone-O Dry Syrup (Cefixime 50 mg + Ofloxacin 50 mg) is an antibacterial medication used in children to treat typhoid fever, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and lower respiratory tract infections. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Cefjone-O Dry Syrup works by killing bacteria and inhibiting the progression of infections.
INDICATION
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Cefixime : Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and blocking the enzyme transpeptidase, which is crucial for peptidoglycan cross-linking. This weakens the cell wall, leading to bacterial death. It has a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making it effective for treating infections such as respiratory and urinary tract infections.
Ofloxacin : Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication. By blocking DNA gyrase, it prevents the supercoiling of DNA, which is necessary for replication and transcription. Additionally, inhibiting topoisomerase IV disrupts the separation of intertwined DNA strands. This dual action halts bacterial growth and replication.
