DESCRIPTION

Cefjone-O Dry Syrup (Cefixime 50 mg + Ofloxacin 50 mg) is an antibacterial medication used in children to treat typhoid fever, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and lower respiratory tract infections. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Cefjone-O Dry Syrup works by killing bacteria and inhibiting the progression of infections.

INDICATION

  • Typhoid fever : Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi, which spreads through contaminated food or water from an infected person. Cefjone-O Dry Syrup (Cefixime 50 mg + Ofloxacin 50 mg)  is used to treat typhoid fever. Common side effects may include high fever, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea, and vomiting.

  • Urinary Tract InfectionA urinary tract infection (UTI) affects any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra. UTIs are common and women are at a higher risk of developing them. While UTIs are primarily caused by bacteria, they can occasionally be caused by viruses or fungi. Cefjone-O Dry Syrup (Cefixime 50 mg + Ofloxacin 50 mg)  is used to treat UTIs in children that are caused by bacterial infections.

  • Skin and Skin Structure InfectionSkin and soft tissue infections occur when bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Cefjone-O Dry Syrup (Cefixime 50 mg + Ofloxacin 50 mg)  is used to treat various skin infections, including abscesses, caused by bacteria.

  • Acute bronchitis Bronchitis is the inflammation and irritation of the bronchial tubes that carry air to the lungs. Cefjone-O Dry Syrup (Cefixime 50 mg + Ofloxacin 50 mg) is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacterial infections. It is also used to manage acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the bronchi) and recurring episodes of bronchitis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Cefixime : Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and blocking the enzyme transpeptidase, which is crucial for peptidoglycan cross-linking. This weakens the cell wall, leading to bacterial death. It has a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making it effective for treating infections such as respiratory and urinary tract infections.

Ofloxacin : Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication. By blocking DNA gyrase, it prevents the supercoiling of DNA, which is necessary for replication and transcription. Additionally, inhibiting topoisomerase IV disrupts the separation of intertwined DNA strands. This dual action halts bacterial growth and replication.
