MECHANISM OF ACTION
Cefotec 100 Dry Syrup (Cefpodoxime 100 mg) functions by targeting and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located in the bacterial cell wall, specifically inhibiting the enzyme transpeptidase. This enzyme is crucial for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan layers, which provides structural integrity to the bacterial cell wall. By blocking transpeptidase, cefpodoxime disrupts the normal formation of the cell wall, leading to a weakened and unstable structure. As a result, the compromised cell wall cannot maintain the necessary cellular integrity, causing the bacteria to undergo lysis and ultimately leading to their death. This mechanism effectively eliminates the bacterial infection by preventing the bacteria from maintaining their cell wall structure and function.
