DESCRIPTION
Cefotec-O Tablet is a combination of (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg). It is an antibiotic used for the treatment of typhoid fever and respiratory tract infections (infections that affect various organs involved in breathing). Cefotec-O Tablet (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg) works by killing the bacteria, thereby preventing the further spread of infection.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Cefpodoxime 200 mg is a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This action disrupts the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, a key component of the cell wall, weakening its structure. As a result, the bacterial cell wall becomes compromised, causing osmotic instability, lysis, and death of the bacteria. Cefpodoxime is bactericidal, effective against both Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae). Cefotec-O Tablet (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg) is used to treat respiratory, urinary tract, and skin infections.
Ofloxacin 200 mg is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication. It targets two key bacterial enzymes: DNA gyrase (in Gram-negative bacteria) and topoisomerase IV (in Gram-positive bacteria). By inhibiting these enzymes, Ofloxacin prevents DNA supercoiling and DNA strand separation, essential processes for bacterial replication. This disruption leads to DNA damage, halting replication and transcription, and ultimately causing bacterial cell death. Ofloxacin is bactericidal and effective against a broad range of Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae) and Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Cefotec-O Tablet (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg) is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, skin infections, and other bacterial infections.
Drug-Drug Interactions: Cefotec-O Tablet (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg) may have interaction with vitamin supplements (calcium/vitamin D), diuretic medication (furosemide), Pain killer (aspirin), and bronchodilators (albuterol).
Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid intake of milk and dairy products.
Drug-Disease Interactions: Cefotec-O Tablet (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg) may interact with tendonitis (inflammation in tendons), epilepsy, kidney, and liver problems.
PRECAUTIONS
Taking before Cefotec-O Tablet (Cefpodoxime 200 Mg + Ofloxacin 200 Mg) include monitoring for potential allergic reactions and gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach irritation or bleeding. Patients with liver or kidney impairment should use this medication cautiously and under medical supervision. Domperidone may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly in those with pre-existing heart conditions. It’s important to inform the healthcare provider about all medications being taken to avoid drug interactions.
