Cefu-500 Tablet (Cefuroxime 500 mg) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory, skin, and urinary tract infections. It belongs to the second generation of cephalosporins and works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefu-500 Tablet (Cefuroxime 500 mg) medication is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Cefu-500 Tablet (Cefuroxime 500 mg) is commonly administered orally or via injection, depending on the severity of the infection.
Cefuroxime 500 mg, like other cephalosporins, works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located in the bacterial cell membrane. These proteins are essential for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, a vital component of the bacterial cell wall. By disrupting this process, cefuroxime weakens the cell wall, causing it to become unstable. This leads to bacterial cell lysis and death, particularly in actively growing bacteria. Cefuroxime is effective against a broad range of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms due to its stability against many beta-lactamases.
