INDICATION

1. Respiratory Tract Infections

  • Acute Otitis Media (AOM) : This is one of the most common bacterial infections in children, often caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis. Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is effective in treating the infection by targeting the bacterial pathogens responsible for ear infections.

  • Sinusitis : Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is used to treat acute bacterial sinusitis, typically caused by the same organisms as AOM. It is effective against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis, which are common pathogens in sinus infections.

  • Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis : These infections are commonly caused by Group A Streptococcus (GAS), which can lead to complications like rheumatic fever if not treated promptly. Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is an appropriate treatment for bacterial tonsillitis and sore throat.

  • Bronchitis : While viral causes are more common, acute bacterial bronchitis can occur, often due to Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, or Moraxella catarrhalis. Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is used when a bacterial etiology is suspected or confirmed.

  • Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) : Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) can be used to treat mild-to-moderate cases of pneumonia, especially in children. It targets common pathogens like Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis.

2. Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

  • Cystitis (Bladder Infection) : Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is used for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections, especially in pediatric patients. The most common pathogens causing UTIs are Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella species. Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is effective in treating these infections.

  • Pyelonephritis (Kidney Infection) : For more severe UTIs that involve the kidneys, Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) can be prescribed when the infection is caused by susceptible organisms, including Escherichia coli.

3. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections

  • Impetigo : This is a common superficial skin infection, especially in children, often caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is effective in treating the bacterial cause of impetigo.

  • Cellulitis : This is a deeper skin infection that can occur from cuts, insect bites, or other breaks in the skin. Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes are the primary culprits, and Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg)  can help manage this condition.

SKIN AND SOFT TISSUE INFECTIONS (SSTIs)

4. Uncomplicated Gonorrhea : Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) can be used for the treatment of gonorrhea, a sexually transmitted infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Though ceftriaxone is the preferred treatment for gonorrhea, Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) can be an alternative in some cases, particularly in regions with limited access to more potent antibiotics.

5. Preventing Infections in Surgery : In certain types of surgery, such as orthopedic, gynecologic, or abdominal surgery, Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) may be administered prophylactically to prevent postoperative infections. It is particularly used when there is a risk of infection by Streptococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, or Escherichia coli.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Cefuroxime 125 mg : Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which is essential for bacterial growth and survival. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell membrane, preventing the formation of the peptidoglycan layer, which gives the bacterial cell its structure. This inhibition leads to the breakdown of the bacterial cell wall and results in bacterial death. Cefu Dry Syrup (Cefuroxime 125 mg) is effective against a broad range of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, although some strains may be resistant.
