DESCRIPION

Doxisac Tablet (Doxylamine + Folic Acid + Pyridoxine) belongs to the class of medications called ‘anti-emetics’ primarily used to treat nausea (feeling sick) and vomiting (being sick) during pregnancy. Morning sickness (nausea and vomiting during pregnancy) is a common symptom of pregnancy. It usually begins in the 6th week of pregnancy, lasting up to 16 to 18 weeks. However, some pregnant women have it throughout pregnancy. It can lead to electrolyte imbalances and weight loss in pregnant women.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

  • Doxylamine Succinate: As an antihistamine, doxylamine blocks the action of histamine, a chemical in the body that is involved in causing nausea and vomiting. By inhibiting histamine receptors, it helps reduce the sensations of nausea.

  • Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6): Pyridoxine plays a role in neurotransmitter function and can help alleviate nausea and vomiting. It is thought to be involved in the regulation of serotonin levels, which can affect nausea.

  • Folic Acid: While folic acid does not directly affect nausea, it is crucial for fetal development and helps prevent neural tube defects. Its inclusion in the combination supports overall pregnancy health.
