DESCRIPTION

Drotek-M Tablet (Drotaverine 80 mg +Mefenamic Acid 250 mg) is a combination of two drugs: Drotaverine (anti-spasmodic) and Mefenamic acid (NSAID). Drotaverine works by reducing calcium reuptake by the cells, thereby correcting the body's calcium levels and relieving contractions associated with smooth muscles. Mefenamic acid works by blocking the effect of chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation at the injured or damaged site. Together, Drotek-M Tablet (Drotaverine 80 mg +Mefenamic Acid 250 mg) helps in relieving pain.

INDICATION

• Abdominal pain : Abdominal pain is discomfort anywhere in your belly. You may experience this pain when there is a spasm or twitches in the abdominal wall muscles. It can occur due to constipation, overeating, stress, muscle strain, food poisoning, indigestion, stomach or intestinal disorders. Drotek-M Tablet (Drotaverine 80 mg +Mefenamic Acid 250 mg) relieves pain, bloating, cramps and discomfort in the abdomen. It stops muscle spasms by relaxing the muscles in the stomach and intestines.

• Mild to moderate pain: Drotek-M Tablet (Drotaverine 80 mg +Mefenamic Acid 250 mg) relieves spasmodic pain due to irritable bowel syndrome (an intestinal disorder causing pain in the stomach), menstrual cramps, and colicky pain (sharp and localized pain) in the intestines, gall bladder, and urinary tract (such as in the kidneys or ureter)

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Drotaverine: Drotaverine is a smooth muscle relaxant. It works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE-4) enzyme activity, which leads to an increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in smooth muscle cells. This increase causes relaxation of smooth muscle, reducing spasms and cramping, particularly in the gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts.

Mefenamic Acid: Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, particularly COX-1 and COX-2. This inhibition reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are chemicals involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. As a result, mefenamic acid provides relief from pain and reduces inflammation.

Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Drotek-M Tablet (Drotaverine 80 mg +Mefenamic Acid 250 mg) as it might cause increased dizziness and risk of stomach bleeding.
