DESCRIPTION
Elton-D Capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg) is a combination medication containing Omeprazole and Domperidone, designed to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), particularly in patients who do not respond adequately to omeprazole alone. Omeprazole reduces stomach acid production by inhibiting the proton pump in the stomach lining, while Domperidone enhances gastrointestinal motility, helping to prevent acid reflux and associated symptoms like heartburn. In addition to GERD, Elton-D Capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg) may be used to manage other gastric acid-related disorders, such as peptic ulcers and chronic indigestion.
INDICATION
Gastroesophagal Reflux Disease
Gastric Acid Related Disorders
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Omeprazole 20 mg is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme located on the parietal cells of the stomach lining. This enzyme is crucial for the final step of gastric acid production. By blocking this enzyme, Omeprazole significantly reduces the secretion of stomach acid, which helps to heal acid-related damage, alleviate symptoms such as heartburn, and prevent the formation of ulcers.
Domperidone 10 mg is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that enhances gastrointestinal motility. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the gut, which increases the release of acetylcholine. This, in turn, improves the tone and motility of the stomach and intestines, facilitating faster gastric emptying and reducing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and bloating. By promoting better movement of food through the digestive tract, Domperidone helps prevent acid reflux and other related symptoms.

Domperidone may cause cardiac side effects, including QT prolongation, and should be used with caution in individuals with a history of heart disease or those taking other medications that affect heart rhythm. Both medications can interact with other drugs, so it's important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking.
