DESCRIPTION

Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells for carrying adequate oxygen required to various body tissues.

Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) is a combination of two drugs: Ferrous ascorbate (iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBC is produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets sufficient supply of oxygen.

INDICATION

  • Iron Deficiency Anemia: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) helps prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia by providing a readily absorbable form of iron, essential for forming hemoglobin and ensuring adequate oxygen transport in the blood.

  • Enhanced Iron Absorption:  Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) The inclusion of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in Ferrous Ascorbate significantly enhances the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, making the iron more effective in increasing blood levels.

  • Support for Red Blood Cell Production: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) Both iron and folic acid are critical for the production of healthy red blood cells. Iron is necessary for hemoglobin formation, while folic acid supports the development and maturation of red blood cells.

  • Cellular Health and Growth: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg)  is essential for overall cellular health, tissue repair, and the growth and maintenance of new cells.

  • Energy and Vitality: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) help combat fatigue and weakness often associated with deficiencies in these nutrients, thereby improving overall energy levels and vitality.

  • Support for Cognitive Function: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) play roles in maintaining cognitive function and mental health, as they are involved in the production of neurotransmitters and overall brain function.

  • General Well-being: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) By addressing deficiencies in these essential nutrients, the combination supports overall health, helps maintain normal blood levels, and contributes to a well-functioning metabolism.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ferrous Ascorbate combines iron with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to enhance its effectiveness. The iron in ferrous ascorbate is in a form that is more readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract compared to other forms of iron. Once absorbed, iron is utilized in the synthesis of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells. Ascorbic acid aids in this process by reducing iron to a more absorbable form and preventing its oxidation, which further enhances iron absorption and utilization.

Folic Acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B9 that is converted into its active form, tetrahydrofolate, in the body. This active form is crucial for DNA synthesis, repair, and cell division. It supports the production and maturation of red blood cells, working synergistically with iron to prevent megaloblastic anemia. Folic acid also plays a key role in neurotransmitter synthesis and overall cellular function.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interaction: Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) may have interaction with anticonvulsants (phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, sodium valproate, carbamazepine), antibiotics (chloramphenicol, cotrimoxazole, trimethoprim), antimanic drug (lithium), water tablet (triamterene), anti-inflammatory drug (sulfasalazine), painkillers (aspirin), anticancer drug (methotrexate).

Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid intake of dairy products, coffee or tea with Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) at the same time as they may reduce the absorption of Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg).

Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumour, inform your doctor before taking Ferrotec Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg).
