MECHANISM OF ACTION

Glimepiride: This is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release insulin. It does so by binding to specific receptors on the pancreatic beta cells, which causes an increase in insulin secretion, thereby helping to lower blood glucose levels.

Metformin: This is a biguanide that primarily works by decreasing hepatic glucose production and increasing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. It enhances the body’s response to insulin and helps lower blood sugar levels without increasing insulin production. Additionally, Metformin slightly reduces glucose absorption from the intestines.

PRECAUTION

When taking Glipotec M2 Tablet (Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin 500 mg (PR), it's crucial to observe several precautions. Firstly, be vigilant for signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) due to Glimepiride's ability to lower blood glucose levels. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential to prevent and manage this risk. Secondly, ensure adequate kidney function before starting this combination, as Metformin is excreted through the kidneys and impaired function can lead to complications such as lactic acidosis. Additionally, monitor liver function regularly, as both medications can affect liver enzymes. Avoid Glipotec M1 if allergic to sulfonylureas or biguanides. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should seek medical advice before using these medications. Finally, be cautious with alcohol consumption, as it can exacerbate the risk of hypoglycemia. Always consult healthcare providers regarding potential interactions with other medications and adhere strictly to prescribed dosages and monitoring schedules
