DESCRIPTION
Janogest Tablet (Norethisterone 5 mg) is composed of a synthetic hormone (chemical messenger) that mimics progesterone (a female hormone crucial for maintaining the menstrual cycle and pregnancy). It is used to treat a range of menstrual problems such as painful, heavy or irregular periods, endometriosis (abnormal growth of uterus/womb lining), etc.
INDICATION
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Norethisterone is a synthetic progestin that works through multiple mechanisms to provide contraception and manage menstrual disorders. It primarily alters the endometrial lining of the uterus, making it less receptive to the implantation of a fertilized egg. By inhibiting the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland, norethisterone prevents ovulation, thereby stopping the release of an egg from the ovary. Additionally, it thickens cervical mucus, which impedes sperm movement and reduces the likelihood of fertilization. Norethisterone is also used to regulate menstrual cycles and manage conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis by controlling hormone levels and menstrual flow.

PRECAUTIONS

Adhere to the prescribed dosage to avoid potential complications, such as abnormal bleeding or mood changes. Inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking to prevent interactions that could affect the efficacy of norethisterone or increase the risk of adverse effects. Regular monitoring and follow-up appointments are essential to ensure the medication's effectiveness and to manage any potential side effects.
