DESCRIPTION

Janogest Tablet (Norethisterone 5 mg) is composed of a synthetic hormone (chemical messenger) that mimics progesterone (a female hormone crucial for maintaining the menstrual cycle and pregnancy). It is used to treat a range of menstrual problems such as painful, heavy or irregular periods, endometriosis (abnormal growth of uterus/womb lining), etc.

INDICATION

  • Menorrhagia : Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding) is prolonged menstrual bleeding that lasts for more than 7 days. This can lead to anaemia (reduced red blood cell count leading to weakness) and other health issues. Janogest Tablet (Norethisterone 5 mg) will help you prevent episodes of prolonged and heavy bleeding during your menstruation. It works by controlling the effect of progesterone (a hormone that regulates the menstrual cycle). Progesterone slows the growth of your uterus (womb) lining before menstruation, thus reducing your bleeding during menstruation.

  • Contraception : Contraception is a method to prevent unwanted pregnancy.Janogest Tablet (Norethisterone 5 mg) prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). It also works by thickening the lining of your cervix (a small passage that connects the vagina and uterus). This prevents the sperm from entering your uterus (womb).

  • Premenstrual syndrome : A premenstrual syndrome is a group of symptoms that you get before the start of your monthly periods. These symptoms may include anxiety, mood disturbances, water retention, breast pain, etc.Janogest Tablet (Norethisterone 5 mg) works by balancing the level of hormones (chemical messengers) that cause these symptoms in your body.

  • Endometriosis : Endometriosis is a condition in which the lining of your uterus (womb) starts to grow abnormally. Its symptoms are pelvic pain, painful periods, excessive bleeding, pain during sexual intercourse, etc. This condition is caused by an imbalance of progesterone hormone (a chemical produced in your body that is responsible for reproduction, menstruation and pregnancy). Janogest Tablet (Norethisterone 5 mg) treats this condition by controlling the function of progesterone in your body.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Norethisterone is a synthetic progestin that works through multiple mechanisms to provide contraception and manage menstrual disorders. It primarily alters the endometrial lining of the uterus, making it less receptive to the implantation of a fertilized egg. By inhibiting the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland, norethisterone prevents ovulation, thereby stopping the release of an egg from the ovary. Additionally, it thickens cervical mucus, which impedes sperm movement and reduces the likelihood of fertilization. Norethisterone is also used to regulate menstrual cycles and manage conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis by controlling hormone levels and menstrual flow.
