DESCRIPTION
Moxytec Drops is a combination of (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid). Moxytec Drops (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used orally to treat many bacterial infections of the lungs and airways, middle ear, sinuses, skin, teeth, and urinary tract. Moxytec Drops (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) combination medicine is capable of killing bacteria that are resistant to other therapies. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is used to treat mixed infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, including conditions like sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and skin infections.
INDICATION
• Ear Infection: Moxytec Drops (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) can be used to treat bacterial infections of the middle ear like otitis media (infection and swelling of the middle ear).
• Nose Infection: Moxytec Drops (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) can be used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the nose and nasal chamber like sinusitis. Sinusitis is an infection and swelling of the lining of the sinuses. Sinuses are hollow spaces in the bones around the nose that connect to the nose through small, narrow channels.
• Lower Respiratory Tract Infection: Moxytec Drops (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) can be used in the treatment of infections of the airways leading to the lungs. The infections can be pneumonia (it is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs.), acute bronchitis (it is an inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from your lungs), or others caused by different bacterial strains.
• Skin Infection: Moxytec Drops (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) can be used in the treatment of infections of the skin and skin structures caused by bacteria.
MACHANISM OF ACTION
• Amoxicillin (800 MG) : Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) within the bacterial cell wall and prevents the final stages of peptidoglycan synthesis, which is essential for cell wall integrity. Without a functional cell wall, the bacteria are unable to survive, ultimately leading to cell death (bactericidal effect).
• Clavulanic Acid (11.4 MG) : Clavulanic acid is a β-lactamase inhibitor that doesn’t have strong antibacterial properties on its own but enhances the efficacy of amoxicillin. It works by inhibiting β-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria, which are responsible for breaking down amoxicillin. By blocking these enzymes, clavulanic acid protects amoxicillin from degradation, allowing it to reach and act on bacteria that would otherwise resist amoxicillin alone.

PRECAUTIONS
When using Moxytec Drops is a combination of (Amoxicillin 800 mg + Clavulanic Acid 11.4 mg), caution is needed in patients with allergic reactions to penicillin or other beta-lactams, as severe hypersensitivity reactions can occur. It should be used carefully in those with renal or liver impairment, as dose adjustments may be required and liver toxicity is a potential risk. Prolonged use can lead to gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and may cause superinfections such as C. difficile. Pregnant and lactating women should use this combination only under medical guidance. Liver function should be monitored, especially with prolonged treatment. Always complete the prescribed course to avoid antibiotic resistance.
