INDICATION
Acute otitis media : Acute Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.
Sinusitis : Sinusitis is the swelling of membranes that line the nose and surrounding sinuses. It is often caused by bacteria and sometimes, viruses and fungi. It is characterized by a stuffed nose and pain or pressure behind the eyes, nose, cheeks, or forehead. Moxytec –DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat bacterial sinusitis in children.
Lower respiratory tract infection : Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat Pneumonia and Bronchitis in children. Pneumonia is an infection of the air sacs in the lungs (either single or both lungs). It can be bacterial and viral. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat pneumonia caused by bacteria. Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria.
Skin infections : Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat all skin infections including abscesses caused by bacteria in children.
Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis : Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis (a condition where the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils) in children.
Urinary tract infection : An infection in any part of the urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria in children.
Multidrug resistant Tuberculosis : Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis is caused by TB bacteria that is resistant to at least isoniazid and rifampin, the two most potent TB medicines. Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is used to treat tuberculosis in children, which is resistant to first-line TB medicines.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Amoxicillin (400 mg) : Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic in the penicillin class. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Specifically, it targets penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) within bacterial cell walls, which are crucial for peptidoglycan cross-linking, an essential step for bacterial cell wall integrity. By interfering with cell wall synthesis, amoxicillin causes the bacterial cell to weaken, swell, and eventually lyse (burst).
Clavulanic Acid (57 mg) : Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Some bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can break down beta-lactam antibiotics (like amoxicillin), rendering them ineffective. Clavulanic acid binds irreversibly to these beta-lactamase enzymes, inhibiting their activity and protecting amoxicillin from degradation. This allows amoxicillin to work effectively against bacteria that would otherwise resist it due to beta-lactamase production.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Drug-Drug Interaction: Caution should be exercised when Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) is administered in combination with gout medicine (allopurinol, probenecid), blood thinners (warfarin), anticancer, or anti-arthritis drug (methotrexate), and drug to prevent organ transplant (mycophenolate mofetil).
Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid taking eating high-fat meals as this may make it harder for your body to absorb Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid).
Drug-Disease Interaction: People affected with liver disease (like jaundice), glandular fever (viral infection with fever and sore throat), or colitis (bowel disease that affects the large intestine, causing irritation, inflammation, and ulcers in the colon) should not take Moxytec -DS Dry Syrup (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid).
