MECHANISM OF ACTION

Aceclofenac (50 mg) - Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID):

  • Inhibition of Cyclooxygenase (COX): Aceclofenac works by inhibiting the action of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2). These enzymes are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever in the body.

    • COX-1: Primarily involved in maintaining normal physiological functions such as protecting the stomach lining and supporting kidney function.
    • COX-2: Induced during inflammation and injury, contributing to pain, swelling, and fever.

  • Reduction of Prostaglandin Synthesis: By inhibiting COX enzymes, Aceclofenac reduces the production of prostaglandins at the site of inflammation. This results in decreased pain, reduced inflammation, and lowered fever. It is particularly effective in treating conditions such as arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, back pain, and inflammatory disorders.

  • Anti-inflammatory and Analgesic Effects: Aceclofenac's ability to block prostaglandin production leads to reduced swelling and pain at the affected site. It helps in conditions where inflammation is the primary cause of discomfort (e.g., arthritis, muscle strains).

Paracetamol (125 mg) - Analgesic and Antipyretic:

  • Central Action in the Brain: Unlike NSAIDs, Paracetamol (acetaminophen) works primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), particularly in the brain. It is thought to inhibit a form of cyclooxygenase (COX-3) in the brain, which may contribute to the regulation of pain and temperature.

  • Pain Relief (Analgesic Effect): Paracetamol reduces the perception of pain by blocking the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord. It is particularly effective for relieving mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, muscle pain, toothaches, and other non-inflammatory pain.

  • Fever Reduction (Antipyretic Effect): Paracetamol works by acting on the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that regulates body temperature. By inhibiting prostaglandin production in the hypothalamus, Paracetamol helps to lower elevated body temperature, providing relief from fever caused by infections or other conditions.
