DESCRIPTION

Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg) is a medicine used in the treatment of high blood cholesterol and triglycerides (fats) levels. This medicine works by blocking the production of unhealthy fats in your body and prevents the risk of heart problems and stroke (a condition that causes reduced oxygen supply to the brain).

INDICATION

• Hyperlipidaemia  : Hyperlipidaemia refers to a high level of bad cholesterol and triglycerides (type of fats) in your blood. Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg)  is used in the treatment of hyperlipidaemia.

HYPERLIPIDAEMIA

• Prevention of heart Attack : A high level of fats circulating in your blood may deposit in your blood vessels and increase the risk of heart problems. Hence, Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg)  is used to prevent the risk of a heart attack.

• Prevention of stroke : Stoke is a condition that occurs due to insufficient blood supply to your brain. Deposition of unwanted fats may cause narrowing of the blood vessels carrying the blood to your brain. This may cause obstruction in blood flow and increase the risk of stroke. Hence, Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg)  is used to reduce the incidence of stroke by reducing the cholesterol level in your blood.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg)  works by inhibiting the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, which is essential for cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. This inhibition decreases cholesterol production and leads to an increase in LDL (low-density lipoprotein) receptors on liver cells. Consequently, this enhances the uptake and clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream, thereby lowering total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels while potentially increasing HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol. This mechanism helps manage dyslipidemia and reduces the risk of cardiovascular events.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interactions : Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg)  is known to contra-indicate when taken along with cyclosporine (organ transplants medicine), warfarin or clopidogrel (blood thinner), fibrates (gemfibrozil, fenofibrate), a medicine used to lower cholesterol (ezetimibe), antacid (aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide), antibiotics (erythromycin, fusidic acid), oral contraceptive pills, regorafenib (anti-cancer), anti-viral or anti-HIV drug (ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, simeprevir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, dasabuvir, velpatasvir, grazoprevir, elbasvir, glecaprevir, and pibrentsavir). 

Drug-Food Interactions : Alcoholic beverages should be avoided with Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg) .

Drug-Disease Interactions : Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg)  may interact with disease conditions, including neuromuscular disorders (Myopathy, Myoneural Disorder), thyroid gland problems (Hypothyroidism), and Renal Dysfunction.

• Myalgia (muscle pain)
• Asthenia (lack of energy)
• Nausea
• Headache
• Abdominal pain
• Muscle pain
• Weakness
• Daytime drowsiness

PRECAUTION

When using Rusac-20 Tablet (Rosuvastatin 20 mg) , monitor liver function regularly due to the risk of liver enzyme elevations. Be alert for muscle pain or weakness, which may indicate myopathy or rhabdomyolysis. Assess renal function, especially in severe impairment, as dose adjustments may be needed. Avoid grapefruit juice to prevent increased drug levels and potential side effects, and inform your healthcare provider of all medications to avoid interactions. Additionally, regularly check glucose levels, as Rosuvastatin may slightly raise the risk of developing diabetes.
