DESCRIPTION
Telmee tablet is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine also reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by lowering blood pressure. Telmee tablet can also be used in diabetics to protect kidney function and prevent further damage. It works by relaxing your blood vessels and promoting the free flow of blood.
INDICATION
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Telmee tablet (Telmisartan 40 mg) interferes with the binding of angiotensin II to the angiotensin II AT1-receptor by binding reversibly and selectively to the receptors in vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. As angiotensin II is a vasoconstrictor, which also stimulates the synthesis and release of aldosterone, blockage of its effects results in decreases in systemic vascular resistance. Telmisartan does not inhibit the angiotensin converting enzyme, other hormone receptors, or ion channels. Studies also suggest that telmisartan is a partial agonist of PPARγ, which is an established target for antidiabetic drugs. This suggests that telmisartan can improve carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, as well as control insulin resistance without causing the side effects that are associated with full PPARγ activators.
Drug-Drug Interaction: Telmee tablet (Telmisartan 40 mg) may have interaction with pain killers (ibuprofen, aspirin), blood thinners (heparin), medicines used to treat heart problems (digoxin), high blood pressure-lowering medicines (lisinopril, enalapril, ramipril, benazepril, captopril, fosinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, trandolapril, enalaprilat, aliskiren), water pills (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene), muscle relaxant (tizanidine), antibiotics (trimethoprim), and potassium supplements.
Drug-Food Interaction: Telmee tablet (Telmisartan 40 mg) may interact with potassium salt substitutes and potassium supplements, resulting in hyperkalaemia (high levels of potassium in the blood). This may cause severe adverse effects, such as irregular heartbeat, muscle paralysis, and kidney failure.
Drug-Disease Interaction: People with diabetes, cholestasis (liver disease due to the blocked flow of bile), or impaired kidney function should consult a doctor before taking Telmee tablet (Telmisartan 40 mg).
PRECAUTION
When using Telmee tablet (Telmisartan 40 mg), precautions include monitoring blood pressure regularly to avoid hypotension. Patients with renal impairment should be closely observed due to potential impacts on kidney function. Caution is advised for individuals with a history of hyperkalemia or those taking potassium-sparing diuretics, as telmisartan can increase potassium levels. Additionally, assess for possible drug interactions, especially with other antihypertensives or medications affecting the renin-angiotensin system.
