DESCRIPTION

Tenesys-M Tablet (Teneligliptin 20 mg + metformin 500 mg) is a combination medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. Teneligliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, increases insulin secretion and reduces glucagon levels, while metformin, a biguanide, decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Together, they enhance glycemic control more effectively than either drug alone.

INDICATION

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus : Tenesys-M Tablet (Teneligliptin 20 mg + metformin 500 mg) as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

  • Combination Therapy : For patients who require multiple medications to achieve adequate blood glucose control when monotherapy is insufficient.

  • Enhanced Glycemic Control : Provides improved blood sugar regulation through the complementary mechanisms of teneligliptin and metformin.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Teneligliptin

  • Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) Inhibitor: Teneligliptin works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which breaks down incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By prolonging the activity of GLP-1 and GIP, teneligliptin enhances insulin secretion from the pancreas in response to meals. It also reduces the secretion of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood glucose levels by promoting glucose production in the liver. These actions collectively help lower blood glucose levels and improve overall glycemic control.

Metformin

  • Biguanide Class: Metformin primarily works by decreasing hepatic glucose production. It enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, leading to improved glucose uptake and utilization. Additionally, metformin minimizes glucose absorption from the intestine, further aiding in blood glucose control. Unlike teneligliptin, metformin does not increase insulin secretion, thus reducing the risk of hypoglycemia.
