DESCRIPTION

Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is an antifungal medicine. It is used to treat fungal infections like athlete's foot (itchy, scaly, and white patches between the toes), jock itch (red, itchy, and ring-shaped rashes in the groin, the area where the upper thigh meets the lowest part of the stomach), ringworm (red, itchy, and circular-shaped rashes with clear skin in the middle affecting the skin, scalp, or nails), nail infections, etc.

INDICATION

• Athlete's foot

An athlete's foot or Tinea pedis is a fungal skin infection that causes itchy and scaly white patches between your toes. Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is used to treat Athlete's foot.

• Jock itch

Jock itch or Tinea cruris is a fungal infection that occurs in the moist and warm areas of your body like the groin, inner thighs, or buttocks. It is characterised by a red, ring-shaped, and itchy rash. Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is used in the treatment of Jock itch.

• Ringworm infection

Ringworm or Tinea corporis is a skin infection caused by fungi. It causes an itchy and circular rash that may affect any part of your body. Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is used in the treatment of ringworm.

• Other fungal skin infections

Tinea Versicolor is a common fungal infection resulting in small, discoloured patches on your skin. Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is used to treat tinea versicolor.

• Onychomycosis

Onychomycosis refers to a fungal infection of the nails characterised by nail discolouration, ragged or crumbly nails, etc. Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) oral forms are used in the treatment of onychomycosis.

• Cutaneous Candidiasis

Cutaneous candidiasis is a skin infection caused by fungi of Candida species. It occurs mostly in the warm and moist areas of your body. Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is used to treat cutaneous candidiasis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg ) is an antifungal agent that primarily works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is essential for the biosynthesis of ergosterol. Ergosterol is a critical component of fungal cell membranes, and its deficiency leads to increased permeability and structural instability of the cell membrane. This ultimately results in cell death. Terbinafine is effective against a wide range of dermatophytes and some yeasts, making it useful for treating various systemic and superficial fungal infections, including onychomycosis (nail fungus) and athlete's foot. Additionally, it has a fungicidal effect, meaning it actively kills fungi rather than just inhibiting their growth.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interaction : Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg) may interact with drugs used to treat stomach ulcers (cimetidine), antibiotics (rifampicin), antifungal (fluconazole), medicine used to treat high blood pressure (metoprolol), antidepressants (duloxetine, desipramine), opioid pain killers (codeine, tramadol), blood thinners (warfarin), heart-related medicines (amiodarone) and immunosuppressant (ciclosporin).

Drug-Food Interaction : Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg) may interact with caffeine. Therefore, avoid foods containing chocolate and caffeine such as cocoa beans, tea, coffee, cola, and energy drinks as it may increase the adverse effects of caffeine.

Drug-Disease Interaction : If you have lupus (an autoimmune disease), weakened immune system, kidney or liver problems, inform your doctor before taking Terbitec-250 Tablet (Terbinafine hcl 250 mg).
